Today we left Santa Fe and are making our way to Colorado. We only drove two hours today as we wanted to stop along the way and explore “The White Place” which is what Georgia O’Keeffe called Plaza Blanca. She often painted there and we learned about it at the house tour yesterday. It’s a surreal landscape, unlike anything we’ve seen before. While we were hiking around I was struck with the similarity of these light-colored spires with Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia in Barcelona, Spain. I wonder if Gaudi ever visited New Mexico? Unlikely, I guess, but you sure can see how artists are influenced by natural forms.
We drove on and arrived at the sweetest little cabin on the Chama River. We’re only staying one night here and it couldn’t be a more welcome spot. We can hear the river from our cabin – it’s just behind the picnic table in the photo (where I’m sitting as I write this). Walter is geeking out with his bird-watching. He has an app to identify birds and he was stoked to see two new (to him) birds as soon as we arrived. We’ll rest a bit, have a glass of wine soon and tomorrow we head on to Colorado. Life is good.
